ABOUT ME

BEHIND THE LENS

Stewart is a Kent based artist and photographer; after working for many years as an outdoor Activity Instructor, Stewart’s career path changed after meeting his fiancé in Surrey and they both returned to Kent to live together and start a family.

It was then that Stewart realised his passion for Photography, it had always been there, but it wasn’t until he started volunteering for local artists’ charity Nucleus Arts and being in such a creative environment that he finally realised that becoming a photographer and using the natural talent he had, was the direction he was mean to take.

Stewart’s style of photography is mostly documentary style. “I find myself going for walks and finding unusual and eye catching compositions from the most unlikely of places, from the most mundane of objects.” (Stewart says of his work).

He enjoys any subject of photography; be it capturing the beauty of a landscape, being there to get the once in a lifetime shots when photographing for events or even the simplicity yet effectiveness of a ‘headshot’ or a model shoot.

Stewart has been honing his craft for five years so far and although Photography is his concentrated field, it isn’t the only art medium that he enjoys to dabble in. These being: Illustration, Graphic and Photoshop art.

For these Stewart finds his inspiration from comic book and graphic novel art, satire pieces (this interest also carries over into his photography) and in some cases Stewart will choose a subject that could be seen as unexpected, for example he set himself a project based around amputee subjects which was a great success.

Currently Stewart’s work can be found at Nucleus Art’s gallery in Rochester, where he is a resident artist and volunteer. He took part in the 2013 Medway Open Studio art festival in Rochester selling his work. Stewart’s photography experience thus far has included Event Photography, Photo-shoots, Model Portfolio shots, Weddings and Product Photography (of artist’s pieces).
